Getting Serious About Education

In recent newsletters we mentioned a change coming in education - that time is now.  We have set two key goals for this year to enhance our Children Education program. Those attending our 2009 annual dinner heard a very compelling speech by Father Joe, our in country Education coordinator in Uganda and coordinator of the St Francis education program also in Uganda. For a synopses of the speech read our the article in the Advent 2009 edition of Share. Bottom line we have successfully supported 50  children a year and would like to solidify that support.
Faith based Education is something that we all know  - most of us want this for our children or know of success stories of individuals benefiting from such education. Fortunately in Uganda that education is much cheaper - $60 a trimester for a day student and $100 a trimester for boarding students at the primary(or elementary) level in the St Francis program.
We have regular support from many of you that help us cover the expense. Our first goal is to increase that regular support. We make 3 payments a year for each of the students we support. To solidify regular support we hope you will join us by utilizing basic banking functionality to make automatic tax deductible contributions 3 times a year.  Some of you already requested and are doing this  - especially Jay our first Education Chair - who has literally run for education multiple times! He wants many of you to join him in this endeavor. Of course if those of you currently supporting us want to automate your current contributions that can be done as well, just contact us at the same email address.
Our second goal in the Education area is to establish a correspondence program. Many of you know them as a pen pal programs. We know that this will take a lot of coordination and therefore need arms and legs to help us. Foremost we need a new education coordinator.
